  • 2022 F150 3.5 Ecoboost and E85

Picked up a new 2022 F150 3.5 ecoboost lariat a couple weeks back and immediately installed the JB4. Truck is completely stock w/ 3.31 gears, 6.5ft bed and supercrew

1st time I filled up, put in an e30 blend and it was great, but having to figure out how much e85 and 91 to put in is always a pain, so I decided to start upping the E content until either the truck didnt run well or i was filling up with 100% e85 (only 70% ethanol around here). Well, this week i finally bumped it up to full e85 and from what I can tell, the truck is running great with it. High Pressure Fuel Pump dips down a little depending on gear/rpm/boost, but hasnt caused an issue yet. Running Map 5 as I figured out how the truck was running, and will start experimenting with Map 6 and 7.

Coming from an N54, I know the JB4 logging parameters and where they needed to be for that engine pretty well. Still working on figuring out the F150, so if someone has any insight on what safe levels on the fp_h, trims, etc are, im all ears. Assuming fp_h staying about 10 is solid like it was on the N54 and trims im assuming work the same (25 is 0, 25+ fuel added up to 50, 25- fuel removed down to 0) and something in the 25-35 range would mean the fuel system isnt being maxed out.

Overall, with about 400 miles now running straight e85, everything seems to be in line with where it needs to be. FWIW, I am in Colorado so at a higher elevation, and I know in the past on other platforms, this has allowed me to run more ethanol than those at lower elevations so your results may vary. I am underboosting by a few psi according to the ECU PSI vs DME BT comparison once you get up in the RPMs, but this is almost certainly due to the nature of the stock turbos.

In the coming weeks, I'll decide how stock I keep the truck (its my work truck), get the draggy set up and hopefully be getting on a dyno as well so I can get virtual dyno calibrated to monitor changes.

Would love for somebody from JB4 team to chime in! This is some pretty awesome testing.

Does the Jb4 learn ignition, Fuel, and keep adjusting? As you bumped did it reset the trims eventually and add from there?

    Thanks for the data!

How's the full E85 going? I'm surprised you can run that much without an injector or pump upgrade. I know the engine comes with both direct and port injectors, but still...

Frankly, it's best to work with single logs, and take it one step at a time.

Looking at run 2 as that is the better one for analyzing, AFR's are getting pretty rich. Stock flash correct? Pretty interesting the HPFP isn't crashing.

        Log looks pretty normal though.

Been going well, no real issues. Been switching between 91 and e85 and mixes in between as I've been driving more to sites that aren't close to e85 stations lately

For sure. I was pretty much loving multiple times a day for a couple weeks in all kind of driving scenerios to make sure things were looking good. Most my actual logging is in 3rd to 4th gear 30-90ish mph.

These logs were more of the normal everyday types of driving that most people would see. Going from a stop, merging on to the highway, etc. Just so people could get a feel for how it's going with everyday driving

Still no check engine lights or fuel related codes?

That's awesome. How many fillups of straight pump E85 do you think you've ran?

I just picked up a 2022 Tremor with the same 3.5 Ecoboost engine. I'm currently running an E25 mix to see what happens. That's all I could put in because I still haven't run the tank empty after picking it up. It would be amazing if I could run straight pump E85.

JB4 is coming next and I'll also hook up an ethanol content sensor to get accurate readings.

i wouldnt run e85 without at least a JB4. Youre not getting much, if any, benefit on a stock truck.

I've got about 6500 miles on my truck, with at least half running straight e85

Also, not sure where youre located, but im at higher elevations which means less dense air which requires less fuel.

I've been busy but I thought I would give an update on my testing. I've had the Tremor for almost 2 months and almost 1,500 miles. Put the JB4 on about a month ago and immediately started testing higher E85 mixes. On about E50 I can safely run map 3 without any HPFP issues, whatsoever. Any higher map and I can get by if the conditions are just right, including being in the right gear.

I just ordered an E30 and E50 flash tune that won't arrive for at least a few weeks. I plan on logging on map 0 and evaluating how the HPFP reacts when the flash targets are correct.

I'm pretty close to sea level, FWIW, and the stations here are consistently E80 - E85.

i ordered some tunes through 5star to see what we can do. got e30 e50 and working on getting an e85 tune coming as well. will also be doing logs to see whats happening.

fwiw, 5star is pretty confident you can run e85 with no issues.

Once i get through those maps with them, gonna see what i can do about getting a backend map made and using the JB4 for boost control

Awesome, looking forward to it. How long did they say until you'll be able to get the custom files to try? I'm still waiting on my SCT to show up.

Got any logs from E50 or higher? I've been able to run a 4.4 second 0-60 on their 91 file and map 1. Stock Tremor tires are huge but I also have a 3.73 rear.

havent scrutinized logs yet, but didnt notice anything out of the ordinary with a quick glance through them. running e60. This is about the best launch i can get with e60, and its pretty much the same as my e50 runs. just unable to get traction on a harder launch.

on the 91 tune, im consistently in the 4.35 range 0-60 and 8.1-8.2 range in the 1/8. I think the big thing in regards to times on e50+, is not being able to get good traction through 1st and sometimes in to 2nd. Ive tried launching in 2nd but wasnt great so ill need to work on those launches and see if i can improve on these times.

Stock lariat sport tires, 3.31 gears with the 6.5ft bed.
