  • That's the injector. Yes it's normal. Mine does the same thing.

I have another question. Since installing the CPI kit with FSB, I've noticed a sound on starting the car, normally or in accessory mode, during the system check. It's like a burst of three mechanical buzzing noises is the best way I can describe it (if listening in the engine bay). It's audible in the cabin, but sounds more like a light thumping sound, and can be lightly felt in the steering wheel.

Poking my head in the engine bay, it sounds like it's coming from the general fuel pump area where the flex fuel sensor and fuel line tee are installed. With the FSB cover off, I see the board LED lights up in the same burst pattern and is synchronized with the sound.

I have not yet noticed anything out of the ordinary beyond this, so my best guesses so far have been that it's a byproduct of the teed fuel line, similar to a water hammer or other resonance when the pump turns on, expected behavior from the FSB and injector, or that it's entirely coincidental and unrelated to the CPI kit and fueling in general. Maybe it has always been there, to some degree, and I only now noticed it due to post-mod hypersensitivity.

Either way, does this seem normal? I can try to get a short video if this seems unfamiliar.

Thanks for clarifying the meth scaling setting. I've adjusted that and see the change in data now in some short logs. I will try to get logs on longer runs soon.

I still have not seen any signs of leaking with the injector or holder since I last posted, but I am still keeping a close eye on it. Looking at other pictures in the thread, the holder looks the same as the one I received and installed. So far, it really seems like I somehow managed to mess up my first attempt at install is all.

Thank you for the quick confirmation!

      • Hope this is not a dumb question: Is the CPI running all the time just like a normal injector is in the engine since you are running higher ethanol above E30?

I thought I read that it only comes on above 9 Pounds of boost that is set up in the settings. If that's correct, What happens when you are under that set boost? Won't the HPFP crash if running like E50 at a lower boost? Or is the Only time the HPFP will crash when running higher E85 amounts is when under 100% throttle.

        • CPI is only injected when needed, under higher boost situations, where fuel pressure can't be maintained otherwise.

          • I'm about to install my CPI in-lieu of WMI. The kit came with two additional black O rings. Can someone tell me if these are needed, or are they spares for the colored ones on the injector?
            History....
I've had the flex fuel sensor on the car for a while so this is just the other half of the kit...

              • The thicker orings should be installed on the injectors for the Stinger CPI application. The ones on the injector are thinner and may leak.

                • I thought I would share this, hopefully it can make someone's life a bit easier. It's an excel sheet that will auto calculate how many gallons per, to get the E content you are shooting for. It's set up for E85, but you can simply change that value on top and it will auto re-calculate all the fields below. It can be printed and kept in the console for quick reference.
It's work in progress, but the other tab will calculate what your total Octane rating will be by the amount of E you have. Once I fine tune it, I'll upload the full Excel sheet.

                    • Yes, similar but it lacks one thing, it's coded for just E85, and from a recent real-world test, My Sheetz tested at E65 so this will adjust. This is mainly for the folks without the sensor also who have a hard time guessing how many gals per to mix.
Maybe Fuel-IT can make a revision to the app so the E-content can be set to real world pump contents?

                      • Interesting... Nice worksheet regardless. I'll ask Fuel-IT to include a similar change for future versions.

*** EDIT *** They replied it's already in the latest version of the universal app.

                            • Which part of the firmware is being used for the cpi? Beta still or stable?

                              • In the installation instructions, the fuel it kit shows the power connection using the 10mm bolt in the fuse box. The cpi instructions suggests using this same connection but the picture shows the connection going into a fuse location but suggests using the same spot as the fuel it kit.

Which is correct? Do you use the 10mm bolt like the fuel it kit or do you need to use an empty fuse location?

I'm glad you asked. We suggest the FSB and flex fuel sensor NOT be installed on constant power as the flex fuel guide shows, and instead be on switched power like the CPI/FSB guide. I'll get with Fuel-IT to update their guide.

We've had a couple customers report they could not connect to the JB4 with the flex fuel sensor attached and I suspect that is why. If you can't connect and have a flex fuel connector disconnecting it's power is a quick test to see if that is related.
