THIS PART IS LEGAL FOR USE ONLY IN COMPETITION RACING VEHICLES AS DEFINED UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW, AND IS NOT LEGAL FOR USE IN ANY OTHER MOTOR VEHICLE. California law defines a "racing vehicle" as "a competition vehicle not used on public highways." (Calif. Health & Safety Code 39048) This part may only be used on competition racing vehicles operated exclusively on a closed course in conjunction with a sanctioned racing event. Competition-only motor vehicles may not be driven to a racing event on a public highway and must be transported on a trailer or other carrier. USE OF THIS PART IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE MAY SUBJECT YOU TO FINES AND PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF FEDERAL AND/OR STATE LAW, WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY FROM BURGER MOTORSPORTS, INC, AND CAN VOID YOUR VEHICLE'S WARRANTY. It is your responsibility to comply with all applicable federal and state laws relating to use of this part, and Burger Motorsports, INC hereby disclaims any liability resulting from the failure to use this part in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.

This is the dedicated N55 E chassis JB4 thread. Compared to our N55 Stage1 the N55 JB4 includes smoother and stronger tuning, greatly improved turbo lag reduction, our industry leading in dash integration, code reading/deleting, meth integration, E85 support, and much more.

    Maps:

    Map 0: Stock bypass.
Map 1: 13psi. Suggested for most racing applications.
Map 2: 14psi. Suggested for those with exhaust and 93 RM2 or higher octane.
Map 3: Progressive meth mapping with flow sensor failsafe. See guide to enable. Meth use isn't supported/suggested without a flow sensor and map 3.
Map 4: Stock map w/ CAN active. Allows full logging and in dash gauges on the stock mapping.
Map 5: Autotuning map. Boost ranges between 11-18psi based on your cars octane, conditions, and modifications. Fully E85 compatible. If using E85 we suggest around 30% to start. Refer to the E85 FAQ for addl info. Resets to 93 octane level adaptions when selected and adjusts itself up or down from there.
Map 6: User defined map generally only used for diagnostics or troubleshooting.
Map 7: Race gas map. 18psi peak boost.

    General Notes:

    1) JB4 has cold/hot oil protection built in. So expect stock like boost until oil temps are > 160 degrees. Same goes for oil temps > 280 degrees.
    2) The N55 turbo is relatively undersized and due to this we suggest shifting at a lower RPM for optimal racing performance. We've found 5600-5800rpm works well.
    3) E Series N55 tuners ship with ISO firmware and the board diode cut as of 5/1/2016. If your system is loaded with v8/17/12 firmware to update it you must cut the diode on the board per the ISO firmware directions. v8/17/12 was the last non-ISO firmware.

    FAQ

    Can I upgrade my N55 Stage1 to a JB4?

Upgrade kits are no longer available for Stage1->JB4

I made a post asking for help in this thread and I can't find it now. Where did it go?

Support requests and bug reports are generally deleted or moved from this thread without being read. If you require assistance from BMS email us at [email protected]. Otherwise for forum support or general help me posts please take advantage of n54tech's support section.

What are the default in dash settings?

Menu4 should be set to 3, menu10 set to 3000rpm, menu11 set to 1000rpm, and menu12 set to 2400rpm. If you experience a check engine light during an initial install double check these settings!

What are the menu 5 gauge configuration options for?

The JB4 is defaulted to 335/535 USA mode. If you have a 135 or metric 335/535, you will pick the appropriate option to recalibrate the gauge read outs. Once selected the gauges will all center themselves at midpoint to let you visually verify if you've selected the proper mode.

    How do I read codes?

There are two methods. The easiest method for beginners is to connect the laptop interface and use the "read codes" button as indicated in the image below. This will give a full listing along with descriptions. Alternatively for more advanced users or if a laptop isn't available you may use the in dash reading on menu 1 option 1. For additional directions click here.

How does the traction assist work?

If you find traction problems too severe in 1st and/or 2nd gear you can cap the maximum boost/torque achieved in those gears to aid with traction. You'll find them under user settings. A value of 10.0 in 1st and 12.0 in 2nd will limit boost to 10.0psi while in 1st gear and 12.0psi while in 2nd gear. When in 1st or 2nd gear under the boost limit you may hold down the steering wheel volume or talk button to bypass the limit while the button is held down. For example if doing a burn out at the track.

    Are E85 fuels supported?

You can run up to 50% E85 on the factory fuel system with the factory N55 turbo. The only requirement is the E85 flex fuel connector with comes standard on new JB4 "typeB" harnesses and remains an add-on for JB4 "typeA" harnesses. The flex fuel connector and directions are on our N55 upgrades page.

How do the new steering wheel controls work?

This thread is the central location for all information related to the JB4 E Series N55 ISO. It offers smoother and more consistent boost control, further reduced lag, and sets up the N55 JB4 to control larger turbos and the BMS N55 backend flash map. We'll post all firmware updates and notes to this thread.

    General notes:

If updating from an older system before loading ISO firmware you must first cut the diode on the JB4 board as shown in this photo and update your settings and firmware. Remember to always remove your negative battery cable before touching any electrical wiring.

    Maps:

    Map 0: Stock bypass.
Map 1: 13psi. Suggested for most racing applications.
Map 2: 14psi. Suggested for those with exhaust and 93 RM2 or higher octane.

Download using the new internal firmware database within JB4 Mobile or externally by clicking this link.

    Firmware notes:

    N55_ISO_18

    1) Adjusted spool up algorithm so "DWP" can be used to set spool aggressiveness. A value of 60 = spool up mode held until boost is 60% of boost target, 80 = 80% of boost target, etc.

    N55_ISO_17

    1) Fixed possible bug with IAT parameter dropping out during logging
    2) Other minor bug fixes
T5) Added back in water temperature logging
T5) Adjusted boost safety system so that boost safety is now always 3psi over JB4 target, or boost sensor range. Safety will never trigger unless boost is over 14psi. Boost safety setting is now used only for the in dash boost gauge range.

    N55_ISO_16

    1) Fixed bug with cars with earlier DME software that doesn't log oil temp/timing cyl 2-6 properly effecting the tuning performance.
    2) Added speed and manifold boost as full time outputs per latest interface changes.
    3) Enabled additional voltage input under DB9 to support Fuel-ITs low fuel pressure sensor for port injected setups.
    4) Adjusted adaption reset options to match latest N54 firmware. 1/4 for afr, o2, octane adaptions, 1/5 for dash cluster reset, 1/7 for battery registration/adaptions.

    N55_ISO_15

    1) Changes for Fuel-IT PI integration.
    2) Added logic to start virtual flex fuel sensor development.
T4) Changes to correct possible bug with FF resetting, added FUD.3 option to reset FF to 100 every startup for diagnostic purposes.
T5) Adjusted boost spool up logic to mirror N54 JB4. Let's see some logs for comparison!

    N55_ISO_14

    1) Change to improve low and part throttle performance when running in mode 4/2 for a back end flash map.
    2) Fixed problem with menu11 showing half the actual value.

    ************************************************** ************************
*N55 E Series ISO FutureUseD Settings as of v5.15:
    ************************************************** ************************

bit0 - Disable steering wheel controls.
    bit1 - Disable wastegate/FF adaption.
bit2 - Disable oil temp warmup safety
bit3 - Reset FF to 100 at each startup
    bit4 - Enable alternative meth input algorithm where 0-100% flow = .5v - 4.5v input.
    bit5 -
bit6 - Disable FF RPM gain so duty bias RPM gain can be manually set more precisely.
bit7 - Disable auto change to map0 with OBDII port activity

    FUA:
0-50 - Lock in a differential between DME target and ECU PSI to reduce the throttle safety. 0 = default operation. 26 units per PSI. e.g. a value of 26 would dampen throttle safety an addl psi. This value will also reduce effective load reported back to the DME by that amount. For diagnostic purposes only.

            1. Does the JB4 eliminate the need for the CAN Tool?
            2. With the JB4 can you selectively delete codes or is it "all or nothing" like the CAN Tool?

With the Stage 2, what are the differences between maps? Instead of using 10 psi or whatever in 1st and 12 psi or whatever in 2nd, what does it default to out of the box?

Not finalized yet so can't comment. But ultimately the map lineup will be similar to the JB4 for N54. Map 1 for pump gas otherwise stock, map 2 for ********/93 octane, map 3 for meth, map 5 for autolearning, etc.

It probably won't be open to the general public for at least a couple of weeks. We're doing local testing now and then will be expanding out. Once everything is checked off then we'll open up public alpha testing.

Do the map 6 test with Stage1 to verify if you need to update. If so, just keep running the Stage1 until you can.

This seems to be the case but it has not been confirmed yet. But I can tell you every bmw I have seen with the new due update has had the new Visual and my pre dme did not.

This is NOT the case with all N55's.

I have a recent DME on my 135i (confirmed with the Map 1 Graphs), and I still get the hazzard/circle signal.
