Yes you'll generally make less boost with less barometric pressure, but the ECU will compensate for some of the pumping losses by raising it's boost target slightly.

      Hi Terry

I updated my firmware on my '18 991.2 TTS JB4 as you suggested last week. Now my gauges aren't working correctly. I read the troubleshooting page and other threads, but none of those suggestions helped. Details are:

All gauges and the app worked fine for the past month, up until the moment I updated the firmware, so it doesn't fit to think it is a mechanical connection issue with the OBD2 cable (although I did go ahead and disconnect/reconnect both ends of that cable a couple times anyway).

The only gauge that works correctly is the one showing which map I am on. The other gauges all show no reading, until I apply hard throttle and get boost up. Then the gauges will all flash to life and then immediately "freeze" on a fixed display number. The frozen display will stay the same until the next time I greatly exceed the earlier boost level, then it will again momentarily display and then re-freeze with a higher boost reading.

100% of the time I go to the Read Code option, it says "invalid read, try again?" Then when I return to the gauge display from the read code option, the map gauge goes to no reading/zero, even though it says I am still connected. If I then disconnect/reconnect the BT, the gauges go back to only map gauge reading correct and all others zero.

I have tried force closing the app, and rebooting the iphone, and leaving the car locked overnight with no benefit.

Initially I thought maybe the firmware hadn't succeeded, because after waiitng for the writing blocks, I would return to my iPhone to just see the same screen I started with, with no evidence that anything was finished. This led to re-uploading the firmware several times, but the last two times I observed that if I was watching the screen carefully at the end of the writing blocks step, messages momentarily appeared that said ...verifying checksum.... rebooting JB4.....update complete!...... The last crucial message of "update complete" was visible on the screen for no more than a half-second before it would disappear. Hopefully that is all I am supposed to see after a successful update.

Attached is a brief log I ran while getting on throttle to make the gauges go from zero to the momentary on then frozen values.

Look forward to your advice about getting the gauges working again, thanks.

Interesting as nothing on the OBDII side changed with the firmware.

If JB4 had no firmware you would not be able to connect at all.

There is a command in there, options bit4, for slower speed CANbus. As a test turn that option on and lets see if it makes any difference.

As another test when data stops press the "purge" button on the WMI page and see if that gets data moving. We have a CANbus reset command in there.

Bit4 turned on, Purge button tapped, and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. None helped. Now it is not briefly flashing up the frozen values, it is just staying at all gauges zero, except map displays.

          Next suggestion?

Strange seems as if it's not getting any CANbus at all. I wonder if the OBDII cable itself is faulty? Email in and we can replace that for you.

First thing last Friday morning I sent email request for new cable to [email protected]. Haven't heard back yet, might you be able to check to see if someone is working on it? Thanks!

While I wait for that, might it be worth a try to send me a file for me to reload the prior firmware version that was on my unit when I bought it approx 10 weeks ago? Was working fine with that.

I tried to check the codes but i get an invalid read. i shut car off, updated firmware and I still have the code and JB4 keeps giving me an invalid read. i cant check the code delete it. Car seems to be running well though. I'm posting a log. Any suggestions on how to get the code read or how to delete it?

It's possible there is a bug with our code reading, I'll look in to that. In the meantime are you able to use an OBDII reader to check the fault? It might just be the expected "emissions efficiency" fault code.

The log itself looks good although I see trims are up there so we'll need to keep an eye on AFR.

                    Hi BMS team,

I recently sent you an email on this, but I thought I'd reach out here in case it would be better. Do you have dyno charts of the JB4 on a 991.2 Turbo S running 93 octane? I've been scouring all the boards and have been unable to find one. Hoping you guys have one handy.

                    Thanks!

The dyno vid and graph above are mine. You will be able to run Map 3 on 93 octane. Map 3 on my dyno is the thin red line labeled JB4 - 3. There is no 93 where I live, so this chart is on 91 octane and some extra ethanol for a mix of about E30. The peak #s on Map 4 were on a 95 octane mix. My car is stock apart from the JB4 and a Soul Xpipe w/ stock cats.

I was posting above about OBD2 data and gauges not working on my JB4 App, I just loaded the new de-bugged firmware and everything is back to full function.

I'm very pleased with everything about the JB4.

Thanks, guys. I placed my order for the JB4 and the wireless connection app just now. I'll be running 93 octane here in South Florida, so I'm looking forward to hopefully making some impressive gains on Map 3. I have a 991.2 (2017) Turbo S.

I've had a report of that but been unable to recreate reading code issue in ours. You can also read with a generic code reader short term in the OBDII port.

0430 is since i removed he cats but 2262 is turbo boost pressure not detected. Which worries me. Thoughts?

Clear it and see how long it takes to come back up but that may indicate a loose connection on the specific sensor.

Hello. New to the forum and my JB4 should be arriving tomorrow AM. Wanted to make sure I had all the pieces in place before I do the install portion of my JB4 for my 2020 911 C2 (992). I’ve downloaded the JB4 app and also purchased the Bluetooth adapter and plan on connecting the OBDII connection as well.

I scrolled through the firmware files available on the app and didn’t see one specific for the 992. Would it be one of the 991 files? Are there any recommendations on threads or other forums that detail custom mapping and everything tuning with the JB4?

Sorry for all the questions and appreciate your input.

Your JB4 will be on the latest firmware and will show up as 991.2 when trying to update. That will be normal as the tune self identifies when connected to the car.

So to update, I have just had the JB4 installed into my 991.2 Turbo S, and it all seems to be fine except that my JB4 App cannot get past the “handshake” stage of the connection. Could you please let me know what I should do to correct this issue? I tried literally getting right next to the dongle and it still happened.

                                            Thanks.

Do you have any dynos or ideas of gains on a 992 C2 Base?

                                                    Thread revival...

Looking to only use map 1 and 2. Not going to use the OBD II.

Should be able to switch maps with the app right? Won't encounter any issues without using the OBDII right?

Has anyone installed this on a Targa? Finding it difficult to navigate the intake connector. Able to loosen the clip but having difficulty getting around it and replacing it with JB4 end.

Terry @ BMS Hi Terry, I got a JB4(OBDII connector) with Bluetooth for B48. It works great. I really enjoy it. Now I have replaced the B48 with Porsche 991.2 C4 convertible. I want to reuse the JB4 on the 991.2. Is it possible? Could I buy the cables for the Porsche and refresh the firmware? Please kindly suggest. Thanks!

                                                          Hi,

You will need to sell your old JB4 and purchase a new one for the 991.
