    Wasn't planning on taking one home but the close out deals were just too cheap to pass up. $90k sticker, $73k sale price. Went with the 8spd automatic as it appears they tend to put down better drag times. Might make an intake or a little tuner for it, but nothing major planned. Expect to see videos of our various development BMW's smacking this Z06 in rolling races soon.

    I'll do some VBOX 60-130 and 1/4 mile runs soon just so we can see where it stands. I've seen numbers on the forums with traps ranging anywhere from 120mph to 135mph on a stock car! Haven't been able to race it around too much yet but it feels a little slower than our PURE S2 M3 so far.

            If they'd give a discount like yours I would seriously consider it. Unfortunately that was a $96.4k car, and $90k is as low as they'll go. Too rich for my blood when I'm looking for a house.

              Strange, part of the deal right now is Chevy has 10% cash back on 2016 models. Then the dealer discounted it another 9% or whatever to arrive at the final price.

              Houses are a much better use of money though.

                sweet. i took a stock 7 speed m/t down at an event in AZ. with basic bolt ons and good gas that car will romp on most bmws

                        Yes I'll have to dust off my old HPtuners software, lol.

                        I read a big issue with flashing these was the warranty so thought there might be a small market for a cheap AFR box or something that allows limited tuning without having to flash it. Hopefully enough to justify this thing as a business expense anyway.

                          Badass, Terry.

                          Best intake on the market is the Halltech, so take a look at it for some guidelines. The gains it provides are enough for me not to mention for fear of people calling bull****.

                            It's funny you mention it... Just took apart the intake system today. I noticed AFE and Haltech are the main intake options? They basically look the same to me?

                            Anyway this factory plastic piece is huge and has a nice taper down to the factory throttle body. Why would they ever replace this piece?

                            It looks like the engine technology has not progressed much on the LT4. It's still running open loop MAF at full throttle?

                            So many of the intake dynos have the AFR trace missing but the ones that do all show a much leaner AFR with the intake added. They probably claim its because of the higher airflow. But they all resize the MAF housing which would also lean out the AFR. I wonder if the "huge" power gains they pickup are from the leaner AFR and not the extra airflow/boost claimed. If so just dumping in 20% E85 may provide the same power gain.

                            Like this AFE dyno... Intake flow becomes more restrictive as air demand increases so increasing intake flow should make more of a difference as RPM increases. But they claim a huge gain at low RPM too. And interestingly the AFR is consistently leaner across the board indicating MAF rescaling.

                              C7 Z06 Discussion - CAI Stock/Aftermarket Data - There has been a lot of discussion about how the ECU is reacting to the after market CAI's so I decided to do some logging using HPTuners. I got data while using the stock intake and the AFE intake. What I am shooting for is to show stock data and then data right after...

                                I saw that post.. That guy is taking a narrow band o2 sensor signal to produce an AFR chart. He put the effort in but without a wideband its not really useful data. Also doesn't seem to be doing any sort of controlled VBOX testing to substantiate "it feels faster".

                                    Looks like it. Really what I want to see is a before/after dyno trace showing AFR and boost as logged via the dyno. To tell if the gain is from more airflow (e.g. higher boost), leaner AFR, or maybe a combination. Searched there for an hour or two reading old threads and found it exhausting. So little good data shared.

                                    Oh well shouldn't be too hard to gather the data I want myself just so I know. I'm really shocked the car doesn't run full time closed loop off widebands. I mean a BMW 320i has that technology.

                                      GM doesn't have widebands on anything I don't think. I mean Ford only has them on the EcoBoosts. Domestic manufacturers prefer to keep things cheap and simple.

                                                    Was able to sneak in a quick VBOX run on straight 91 octane... low 11s @ 130mph, 8.0 60-130 as recorded during the 1/4 mile run. This thing moves.

                                                    I'll up the octane later and pop the SD card in for some better numbers when schedule permits. Busy tuning up everyone for no fly zone and shift sector.

                                                        How do you like the A8 compared to the DCT in the BMW, performance and fun factor? Btw GM just released a 100 octane tune flash that keeps factory warranty, gets flashed at dealerships.

                                                            Prochargers suck. Like Vortechs, they make numbers but no performance. If you're gonna be supercharged, positive displacement is the only way to go, twin screw is greatly preferred over roots. If you must have centrifugal, go turbo instead. Centrifugal is basically a belt driven turbo anyway, so why waste power spinning it when the exhaust can do it better with less losses?

                                                                I have seen one at the strip and Shift S3ctor. I don't know what all he had done but he was running a full cage, nitrous, and slicks. He was running low 10's in the 140's mph. I don't recall what he ran at Shift S3ctor though.

                                                                  The DCT is better from a roll.. But the A8 is much better from a launch as you can brake boost it. It's a stronger trans too. If we had the GM A8 in a 135 or 335 we'd probably have 9 second cars already.

                                                                    That might be possible. GM does sell a control unit for their trannys. So if you can have an adapter plate made and figure out how to get the BMW computer to interface with the GM controller........

                                                                                No. The fastest supercharged builds are all centrifugal. PD setups don't even come close.

                                                                                  Which makes zero sense because all the top fuelers run 14-71s, which are roots. There has to be some reason that the LT4 can't take full advantage of positive displacement. I'd also like to know the reason they choose to waste power spinning a centrifugal supercharger when a turbo does the same thing and doesn't cost you the parasitic losses.

                                                                                    The displacement blower is a nice clean factory package with good tip in response. It's definitely not the best setup for performance though. It would be 3rd behind a centrifugal supercharger and turbocharger.

                                                                                                    He got married and bought a house so downgraded his personal car to an Infiniti turbo for budgetary concerns. Now that he has some parking spots though he's also going to take one of our other development cars as a beater, maybe the 340i, or maybe the VW GTI.
