135i - Best Rears For Traction? -
02-28-2016, 03:43 AM
Quite a few mods have gone on over the last month and I'm now finding that, even in the dry, I have traction control on in 4th so I think it's time for a new set of rears a possibly a diff.
The car currently has a set of PSS which are about 1/2 worn. For 'all weather' these have been great but, the car will now only be used in the dry so I'm basically after a set of rears that will give most traction under WOT but are street legal. They can almost be 'slicks' and can wear quickly but do need to be legal.
I'm also happy to change the size as long as they'll go on the stock rims.
Thanks.

Depends on what kind of power you're making. If under 600whp, 555Rs should be plenty.
If you want the best grip I've found that will work with a 135i (without cutting up the fenders)...

NT05 is the best dry tire I've ever used. One of the worst in the rain though LOL. If you're sure it's only going to be a dry condition car, look into NT01, NT05 or R888. Three awesome tires. If you want something slightly better in the rain or a little better tread wear, BFG Sport Comp 2 is the best street tire I've used. Almost as much grip as the Nittos and much better in the rain.

I'm putting some ET Streets on the spare set of style 264s I have laying around, next weekend. I'll report back after my first trip to the track.

I bet an R888 would be awesome for high speed roll racing.

Keyap I'm in the uk to in a similar-ish situation albeit not as much power as you. I was looking at the federal 595 rsr semi slicks, they will offer more grip over the MPSS' and still get you from a to b in the wet weather.

Hey guys, thanks for the all responses. It looks like here in the UK options for traction plus road legal are limited . Apparently dot rated are frowned on by some of the rozzers which limits options so it looks like I'm going to need E rated since my goal is traction whilst DD'ing, not track.
R888Rs seem one to go for although MPSS seem to be rated similar so I'm not sure what improvements I'd see.
I actually think it maybe time to slip something like a Quaife or MFactory LSD in and see what happens since the existing diff really doesn't cut it with increased power levels.
DB90 - thanks for the federal recommendation , I'll have a look
Baja2700 - why not the R888Rs?

Since this old thread got bumped, I'll chime in. Cheap wheel that fits well, even though it's only 8.5" wide. If you're lowered, you'll have to roll you're fenders.
My rear E46 style 68 wheels with 275/40/17 MT ET Street R's have been great up to 700+whp.

So, thanks to all those who posted above.
A quick update - the BMW is now just used for fun so will only be used in the dry and I'm after the best tyre for straight line traction from a ~20mph rolling start. Cornering, ride and durability do not matter however, they need to be street legal and either 18 or 19 inch.
I was looking at either the r888, r888r, 595rs-r or FZ201s. I have however also been recommended some Nankang AR1s which I have zero experience of?
Given the above, anyone got any thoughts?
Thanks
